Abstract: This research is performed on a random sample of 9 schools situated in Dubai; to serve a fair assessment of the state of schools; contingent on the categorized groups of school such as old and new buildings or those located in the vicinity or far from public transportation systems. The study aims to provide a detailed quantitative analysis associated with transforming schools in the region to become green or LEED certified. Data collected for each school is analyzed and checked against the LEED certification requirements by the developed model which works on attempting the lowest possible cost of practical activities to attain LEED certification tiers. The comparison including cost estimate is carried out to all LEED certification levels; to identify an overall practical level of retrofitting required depending on the categorized sample of schools that are explored.
